April 10th and 11th would normally be the 2020 Annual Gathering on the Easter weekend, but the COVID-19 virus has changed plans for us this year. We would like to report on a few developments.

2020 Annual Gathering Refunds

By now all the players, pipe bands, band contest admission ticket purchasers, and souvenir program advertisers for the 2020 Annual Gathering should have received their refund, as all were processed in the week of March 30. Please contact communications@bcpipers.org if your refund has not yet been credited against your credit card.

BCPA Education Series Spring 2020

Based on recommendations from pipe band musical leaders, BCPA is focusing on supporting education and player development in these times of the COVID-19 virus challenges.

Friday, April 10, 2020 starting at 8:30 am PDT (normally the first day of the Annual Gathering) we are taking to our BCPA YouTube Channel to bring you a series of videos from some of the prominent players and adjudicators in the BCPA in a series we are calling “BCPA Education Series 2020”

You will find videos on a variety of topics that you should find informative and practical. Each of the videos are under 10 minutes and provide some great insights from players and adjudicators in the BCPA.

Best of the BCPA Annual Gathering

Saturday, April 11, 2020 we are launching a series titled “Best of the BCPA Annual Gathering” on our BCPA YouTube Channel. It will feature videos of some of the winning performances in the Open Piping Piobaireachd, Open Piping March, Strathspey & Reel, and Open Snare Drumming March, Strathspey & Reel at the Annual Gatherings over the past 17 years. Check back throughout the day as videos will be released each hour.

Outdoor Highland Games Season Update

Things continue to change with the COVID-19 virus challenge and we appreciate that you want to know the status of the 2020 Season, so we are keeping you updated as soon as changes are announced by the highland games.

BCPA has been and continues to work with each highland games’ organizers on providing support as best as we can through these challenging times. By late April, if not sooner, we should know the decisions of all the highland games on whether they will be holding their competitions this season.

In this environment, the BCPA Board, in consultation and partnership with the highland games, and the Adjudication and Solo Grading subcommittees have been working on a contingency program to provide opportunities for players to receive performance assessments to continue their musical development during the spring and summer. More details will be announced on this in the coming weeks.
