The complete results of the 2019 Annual Gathering are now posted on the Results page.
They include the per event results, the aggregate/overall winners in the solo and band events, and details of the band results.
In addition, winners of the special event awards are included.
The Grand Aggregate standings are on the Results page.
BCPA livestreamed solo and band events for nearly 16 hours, peaking at over 80 simultaneous viewers during the band competition. The saved videos are on the BCPA Facebook page. A special thanks to Mike Chisholm who provided great commentary during the broadcast of the Saturday solo and band competitions and to Jamie Kubasiewicz for his technical support.
Donations to BCPA from viewers of the online broadcasts and in-person at the Open piping and band events venues were unexpectedly down substantially compared to last year. BCPA relies on the financial support of the piping and drumming community to continue the activities of the Annual Gathering. If you want to see the Annual Gathering continue and advance, please consider donating to support the Annual Gathering on the Association’s Donations page.
Photos from the Annual Gathering will be posted on the BCPA Photo Gallery page very soon. Our thanks to Phil Edge and Jeanie Cardinal for their great work over the two days. The photo albums are as popular as the Results page after competitions and the work of BCPA Photographers provides so much colour and valuable memories of these events.
Many thanks to the Annual Gathering Organizing Committee (Thomasine Antoniali, David Bruce, Lynn Bullis, Derek Davidson, Bill Elder, Sharyn Elder, Moira Mack, Rob MacNeil, Cameron Reid, Jessica Reid, Ken Stratychuk, Lex Webster) for their dedicated work in planning and executing this event, Kevin McLean and Jessica Reid for the souvenir programme, Sandy Reid, Reid Maxwell, and Terry Lee for their announcing duties at the Open solo events, band contest, and awards ceremony, and to the many volunteers, adjudicators, stewards, scorers, and instructors who contributed their time and effort to make it successful.
Our thanks to Elouise Roane for traveling from Edmonton to conduct the inaugural presentation of the Pipe Major Malcolm Nicholson, C.M. award for the best Juvenile band in Grade 4 or 5 on the anniversary of her grandfather’s investiture as a Member of the Order of Canada on April 19, 1978. In the history of the award, Malcolm is still the only Order of Canada recipient to receive the honour exclusively for services to piping and the juvenile bands in the Pacific Northwest today are a result of the dedication to teaching he instilled decades ago.
BCPA is seeking feedback on your satisfaction with the 2019 Annual Gathering via the updated Poll on the right hand sidebar of the BCPA website main page. Please take the opportunity to provide us your feedback on any or all elements you experienced.
The Association is very appreciative of the many people and organizations who took out ads in the 2019 Annual Gathering Souvenir Programme, sponsored events, and donated monies to support the Annual Gathering.
Finally, BCPA would like to congratulate Graham Davidson on being awarded a BCPA Life Membership during the Annual Gathering awards ceremony and to thank Len Leroux for presenting the Life Membership tribute to Graham. Graham’s dedicated contributions to the Association and to the development and advancement of pipers and pipe bands, both juvenile and adult, are immense and the overwhelming applause from the assembled piping and drumming community to his award was very fitting.
