The BC Pipers Association offers congratulations to Joan McKellar, the recipient of the BCPA 2018 Spring Darleen Milloy Memorial Bursary.
Joan is a mature beginner piper and is starting to transition from the chanter to the pipes. She was raised in Kincardine, Ontario, a very Scottish town and home of the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band, and it has been her life-long dream to become a piper. Joan attended a summer school for two weeks last year – learning to read music, play the basic scale, gracenotes, a few doublings and the D throw. She is looking forward to returning this year to continue her studies and improve her piping skills.
Joan lives in the Metro Vancouver area and has recently joined the Cedar Hills Caledonian Pipe Band which, in addition to their performances in the community, has begun competing in Grade 5. She is attending band practices to improve her chanter skills.
