B.C. Pipers' Association
Photo Album #6
Photos from the Summer of 1999
Most of the following are just personal photos, taken for our family's photo
albums. (If you have photos you'd like to share with the BCPA Web browsers, please contact me - Bob D.)
Thinking from the view of - 'How will we remember piping from the summer of 1999' I
have selected some specific photos I think (hope) you'll find interesting. (I
know you'll find them to be wide)
If you click on a photo you'll see the large size version - (all of the large size
versions of the photos are less than 55K in size - reasonably fast to load.)
Unless noted otherwise, the photos on this page were taken by Bob Dunsire, during the
summer of 1999. (Again you know whom to blame)

We're proud of all of the juvenile pipe bands in the BC Pipers'
Association area.. Here (the Northwest MacGregor PB - from Mt. Vernon WA) is one of
the six(!) juvenile bands competing at the Bellingham Highland Games. |
Another of the Juvenile Pipe Bands from the Pacific
Northwest (the White Spot Pipe Band ) is marching off the field after competing at
the Son's of Scotland Highland Games. As I recall, there were five juvenile bands
competing in Cloverdale on this day. |
The Abbotsford Police Pipe Band traveled to
Scotland this summer. This group picture of the band was taken at Perth on
August 16.Photo courtesy of their PM Doug Bird. |
Rothesay was one of the (Seven) Scottish Highland
Games in which the RMM band competed. This photo shows (I think) a little of
what Scottish Games are like: As the kids march pipes down to the (Grade 2) competition
circle, a cabre is being tossed in the background, behind that you might see some
other track & field events, (running, tug-o-war and bicycle races), and behind that
you might see the carnival stuff. Not seen is the dance stage which was
immediately to the right of the photo. And I won't mention the beer tent. |
The Perth Highland Games band competition
area was not in the center of their park, it was in its own area (which is probably a good
thing because, among other entertaining 'stuff', motorcylces jumping over burning
obstacles might have been a distraction for a band?) This is a photo of the APPB
marching from the warm up area (and bus parking lot), to the competition
area.

The RMM PB (with supporting parents and
siblings) went to Scotland to compete in the World Pipe Band Championship - and they won.
Here is the band, with their World's trophies, right after winning them.
(They won Drumming and March & Deportment too.)

BCPA has two Pipe Band World Champions
for 1999:For the third time in the last five years the SFU PB won the Grade 1 World
Pipe Band Championship.
Here they are, with their new World's trophies. They won Drumming too.
August 14 1999 - Glasgow, Scotland |
Here they are - combined (RMM / SFU)
bands - on the Green, in Glasgow, with their World Championship trophies - August
1999A truly rare event - Grade 1 and Juvenile World Championships, won in the same
year, from the same organisation. A HAPPY GROUP. |
