| From November 11, 2000 United Scottish Cultural Centre,
Vancouver. Grand Aggregate Awards Evening.
In addition to the award winners, there were many 'thing' to photograph. The
trophies are most impressive indeed. |
Here is a somewhat eclectic selection of photos from the
evening. (All photos here were taken by Bob Dunsire - please ask, if you
wish to use one of these, it is not a problem, I would just like to know) |
Rex Davidson (of the St. Andrews &
Caledonian Society of Vancouver ) gave some of the history of a few of the memorable
Grand Aggregate trophies. Many of them were created in the 1920s, in an era when this type
of amazing craftsman ship was not uncommon. |
Donald MacDonald (also of the St.
Andrews & Caledonian Society of Vancouver ) presented the award to each winner.
(Perhaps I should not mention that moments after this photo, the top of this Grade 1
trophy fell to the floor - no damage, but a memorable moment!) |
From the left - the Grade 1 Solo trophy,
(a removable top) the Professional Solo Trophy, then the Grade 1 Band trophy - Incredible
in its detail |
A group shot of the Grand Aggregate
Award Trophies - each is most impressive. Here you can get an idea of the
relative sizes. |
Perhaps the most impressive silver
trophy one will ever see - more silver than the Stanley Cup, Grey Cup, or any other cup
that you could name (I'd guess) - full size photo is 70K to show some of the detail on the
back |
A closer look at the back of the Grade 1
Band Grand Aggregate - a silver pipe band - full size photo is 43K. (Silver work
like this is very uncommon today - at a minimum it would be prohibitively
expensive) |
The front of the Grade 1 Band Grand
Aggregate trophy, held by Alan Bevan. Note the piper (in silver) on the top of the
trophy. |
A question: Large trophy, or small
piper? Both.. Colin Lee returns carrying the Grade 4 Pipe Band Grand Aggregate
trophy. |
Gold, Silver, and more.. |
A closer view of the trophy awarded for
the Grand Aggregate in Professional Piping. |
From the left: Professional Drumming,
Grade 2 Band, Grade 4 Band, and Grade 1 Band trophies. |
