Announcement of the Campbell River Highland Gathering – August 11, 2018

Background: Work has been underway for several years by various people to try to restore the events that were the BC Legion Highland Games. This work has come to fruition with the establishment of the “Campbell River Highland Gathering”. While not strictly for legion pipe bands, the organizers indicate the Gathering will be loosely based on the format of the BC Legion Highland Games which was a great opportunity for legion bands to get together and perform in a fun, relaxed competition environment. The organizers are reaching out to legion pipe bands and other pipe bands to support the Gathering and they are also intending to offer some BCPA sanctioned events to further encourage participation. BCPA supports their initiative and encourages performance and competition bands to support their worthy efforts.

The Campbell River Highland Gathering is set for the 2nd weekend of August in conjunction with the Campbell River Salmonfest, in Campbell River on Vancouver Island.

It will be held on Saturday August 11, 2018 at Nunn’s Creek Park alongside of the Logger-sports events taking place all week-end long. Our normal piping and drumming competitions will be accompanied by a highland games with heavy events and a special Celtic entertainment play-off.

Solo bagpiping and drumming competitions will start early in the morning while the main events start at 12:30 pm with a massed band kicking the whole thing off.

Bring your friends and family as the whole park will be alive with bagpipes and buzz-saws.

For the same price of admission, you will be able to visit all the activities including logger sports, pipe bands, caber tossing, childrens’ play area, food court and many vendor kiosks!

Think about the massive cross-cultural Tug o’ War between the kilties and the plaid shirts!

It’s going to be one whale of a Salmonfest!

Please follow us on Facebook and we’ll keep you up to date on everything from registering to where to stay.

We will do our best to assist bands coming from a distance and off island.
